It's really bad when your screen suddenly, randomly goes black and all you can see if the blue outlines of your teammates, the white outline of the payload, and-if they're in your face-the red outline of the bad guys. When your temps are as high as they should be going or you realize that you're just not going any higher without stability issues, call it, run Heaven for an hour, then play some games and see how it looks. Once you've dialed one clock down, you might be able to continue bumping the other one up. Usually artifacting is caused by pushing the VRAM too hard, and straight up crashing is linked to the core clock more often than not. When you do crash, dial down one clock or the other. Lather, rinse, repeat until you start maxing out your temp or crashing.
If you don't crash, YAY! Dial both up another 50MHz. Run FurMark or Kombustor for five minutes. Bump your core clock and memory by 100MHz each.
You're not going to stay there, but it's easiest to just start maxed out because unlike your CPU, maxing out your GPU voltage on the stock BIOS won't fry it.Ģ. Assuming you're using the stock BIOS, here's how I'd do it:ġ. My method for OC'ing graphics cards is a little different than for OCing CPUs. If your card is throwing artifacts or the drivers are crashing, either dial up the voltage or dial down the clock. Keep an eye on your temperatures and make sure they're 80C-ish max-excessive heat will wear the card down over time. People get into trouble when they flash custom overclocking BIOSes, don't read the instructions, then puke a ten million volts through it and wonder why their card is suddenly pining for the fjords. It's a little easier to use and more intuitive, imo, and the resource monitor is wonderful. I actually use MSI Afterburner despite owning mostly EVGA cards. PrecisionX is not going to let you set voltages so high that you fry the card.
